About the directory's data

Sources, dates and labels in the ALCBar Lawyer Directory

The ALCBar Lawyer Directory lists lawyers from public licensing records. This page explains where each kind of information comes from, how current it is, and what has and has not been verified, so that people and software reading a profile can tell facts from unconfirmed details.

Source of California listings

California listings were copied from State Bar of California public records no later than June 3, 2026 (exact collection date not recorded). Each profile links to the lawyer's official State Bar of California record, which is the authority on license status.

Source of New York listings

New York listings were taken from the NYS Unified Court System's official attorney registration data on data.ny.gov (dataset last updated October 10, 2026). That dataset is published by the New York State Unified Court System on the state's open-data portal and includes every registered attorney, with registration number, status, year admitted, firm or employer, address and phone. It has no practice areas, so New York profiles show none.

Source of listings in other states

  • Colorado: copied from the Colorado Supreme Court Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel public lawyer search on October 11 and 12, 2026. The copy has not been re-checked since.
  • Idaho: copied from the Idaho State Bar public lawyer search on October 11 and 12, 2026. The copy has not been re-checked since.
  • Louisiana: copied from the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board public lawyer search on October 11 and 12, 2026. The copy has not been re-checked since.
  • North Carolina: copied from the North Carolina State Bar public lawyer search on October 11 and 12, 2026. The copy has not been re-checked since.
  • Pennsylvania: copied from the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania public lawyer search on October 11 and 12, 2026. The copy has not been re-checked since.
  • Washington: copied from the Washington State Bar Association public lawyer search on October 11 and 12, 2026. The copy has not been re-checked since.
  • Wisconsin: copied from the Wisconsin Office of Lawyer Regulation public lawyer search on October 11 and 12, 2026. The copy has not been re-checked since.

These copies came from each authority's public lawyer search. Some searches do not show city or practice area, so those profiles show less. Addresses outside the state were held back in some states until they are checked.

Lawyers found in public sources

In states not listed above, the directory shows lawyers found in public sources, such as court and agency filings or official directories. These pages show the name, firm, city and phone written in that source, link to it, and say "License not yet checked". ALCBar has not yet checked these licenses with the state licensing authority, so these pages are kept out of search engines until it has.

Email addresses

To protect lawyers from spam, profiles do not show email addresses. ALCBar keeps the email from the licensing record only to send a lawyer the link to claim their own profile.

Who is listed

Only lawyers whose status was Active in those records (for New York: "Currently registered" or "Due to reregister within 30 days of birthday"). Lawyers shown as inactive, resigned, disbarred, deceased or not eligible are not listed.

How current the information is

License status has not been re-checked against the State Bar since. Each profile has a "Status last verified" line: it shows a date only when ALCBar has re-checked that lawyer against the State Bar record, and otherwise says the status is not yet verified. Before you hire a lawyer, confirm the license on the State Bar lawyer search.

What each part of a profile is based on

Firm, address, phone, fax, websiteDirectory copies of State Bar of California recordsNot confirmed by the lawyer
Practice areasThe directory's source file; origin not confirmedNot confirmed. Not a certification of specialization

Matter experienceSubmitted by the lawyer and reviewed by ALCBarEach item carries its own evidence label

When information is missing, the profile says "Not stated in the source". That means the directory has no information, not that the answer is no.

Evidence labels for matter experience

  • Reported by the lawyer: submitted by the lawyer, not checked against a source.
  • Source linked: a public source is linked; the lawyer's role and the result are not yet confirmed.
  • Role confirmed: a court, docket or agency record shows the lawyer's role.
  • Result confirmed: a court, docket or agency record shows the stated result.
  • Reviewed by ALCBar: ALCBar compared the claim with the linked sources.
  • Disputed: someone asked for a correction; the item is shown with this label and is not used to match lawyers.
  • Rejected or withdrawn: never shown.

Appearing in a case does not mean the case was won. Results are shown only when a result has its own evidence.

Coverage

The California list does not yet include every active California lawyer. Copies from other state searches may not include every active lawyer. More states are being added.

Order of results

Lists are sorted by last name, then first name. No one pays to appear in the directory or to rank higher.

Claims, corrections and removal

Lawyers can claim a profile from the button on the profile page. Corrections and removal requests go through the request form or the contact page. A person reviews each request.
